Quick and easy 15 minute peanut snack recipe

Peanuts are so yummy that you can have it raw, roasted or even use it to flavour main dishes. Not many know of this  – “easy as pea recipe” that will get your peanuts 2xx the flavour and spice in minutes with little effort.

My sister trialled and tested  this quick peanut recipe  to perfection and surely it works a treat.

Ingredients*:

Peanuts  – about 1 kg.

(approx. as I don’t usually measure – so she said )

 

Spice mix:

2 level tsp each of chilli powder, Chaat powder or jaljeera powder, mango powder, salt (Optional: a tbsp of rice powder for extra crunch)

Yes this is necessary  to give that punch of spice flavour to your nuts

 

What is jaljeera ?

Jal-jeera, or jaljira, is an Indian beverage. It is flavored with a spice mix known as jal-jeera powder. In Hindi, “jal” means water and “jeera” means cumin. The beverage form is essentially lemonade and jaljira powder, and is a popular summer drink in India.

What is chaat powder?

Chaat Masala Powder: A mix of spice powders, Chaat Masala is a tangy powder that can spruce up any dish with a pinch. It is a popular spice mix in India and neighbouring countries, used in a host of recipes from tikki, bhalle, papri, bhelpuri to fruits and curries. A mix of coriander, cumin, and carom seeds powdered can be substituted for chaat powder. The chaat powder gives a bit of tangy taste to the spic mix.

 

Method:

– Mix the powders together, keep aside

– Run water over the peanuts through a sieve, empty the moist peanuts into a bowl

– Sprinkle the spice mix powders and shake through to coat the peanuts

– Bake in oven at 150 degrees for 15minutes.

Done

 

Optional- Fry curry leaves in oil and add to the mix

The peanuts can be enjoyed with a cold beer or a nice hot tea.
